The Faculty of Engineering of the University of Porto (FEUP) joins the vast programme created by the Amélia de Mello Foundation for the celebration of the 150th anniversary of the birth of Alfredo da Silva. In partnership with the University of Aveiro and APQuímica, FEUP organizes on May 12 the conference ‘Chemistry for Life‘.

The chemical activity was the basis of the group built by Alfredo da Silva and is still today, through Bondalti, one of the strongest pillars of one of the groups led by his heirs. Over a century, CUF and its successor companies have accompanied the most important developments in this area and Bondalti has become one of the main operators in the chemical industry in Portugal, increasingly focusing on internationalisation.

The relevance of Chemistry in the past, present and future is the theme of this conference, which will discuss the impact of the constant developments of the discipline in our daily lives, and also the challenges it faces.  Its development increasingly contributes to finding solutions for improving the population’s well-being and the planet’s sustainability.
