‘Uncertainty analysis in environments of accelerated change‘ is the theme of Professor Arminda Alves’ Last Lecture, from the Department of Chemical and Biological Engineering, which will take place on 21 February at 5.30pm in the José Carlos Marques dos Santos Auditorium at the Faculty of Engineering of the University of Porto (FEUP).
Arminda Alves’ latest lecture aims to promote reflection on analysing uncertainty in a context of accelerated change, linking her career in teaching and research in the area of analytical uncertainty to that of management, marked by the constant challenge of seeking solutions. In a rapidly changing world, environmental, social and technological uncertainties are playing an increasingly important role, especially in critical issues such as climate change and sustainable water management, but also in terms of stability in science funding and professional careers for young people. The aim is to emphasise the importance of uncertainty as a driving force for innovation, integrating it into the construction of robust solutions for a future that is uncertain but full of opportunities.
