The Career Award in honour of Carl R. Fellers, conferred by the Institute of Food Technologists, recognises individuals who, through a career of outstanding contributions in innovation, leadership, service and/or communication, have brought recognition of excellence to the field of food science.
Professor Xavier Malcata was the 2023 distinguished personality for his worldwide recognition of leadership skills, his involvement in public service, his communication skills that have contributed to enhancing the role of food scientists in society, and his extraordinary ability in applying science and engineering principles and spreading important concepts about food quality, wholesomeness and safety.
