Professor Luis Miguel Madeira, Associate Professor with Aggregation in the Department of Chemical Engineering of FEUP, participated last 29th April 2022 in a meeting of the Working Party on Education of the European Federation of Chemical Engineering in the quality of Portuguese academic delegate.

The meeting held at CNAM – Conservatoire National des Arts et Métiers in Paris, was attended by 16 members from several European countries. Among several issues discussed, the following were highlighted:

  • Appointment of the new WPE chairman – Hermann Feise, from BASF, Germany, who will take office in August 2022, with Edit Székely, from Budapest University of Technology and Economics, in Hungary, as vice-chair;
  • Extended discussion on 3 major topics: i) Ethics, sustainability, diversity and integrity; ii) Digitalisation, including artificial intelligence and industry 4.0; iii) Teaching methodologies, including the future of lectures, evaluation of knowledge and skills transfer;
  • Information on several congresses in the field of chemical engineering with sessions on education (e.g. CHISA 2022 in Prague – 21-25 August, http://www.chisa.cz/; ECCE/ECAB 2023 in Berlin, 17-21 September, https://ecce-ecab2023.eu/);
  • Invitation to some WPE members to participate in an article on chemical engineering education in a special issue of the journal CHERD – Chemical Engineering Research and Design.
