Professor Maria do Carmo Pereira and Joana Loureiro, both researchers at LEPABE, are part of the consortium that was distinguished with the Mantero Belard Award 2021, one of the Santa Casa Neurosciences Awards promoted this year by Santa Casa da Misericórdia de Lisboa.

The objective of this award is recognize and stimulate scientific or clinical research developed in the scope of neurodegenerative diseases associated with aging, such as Parkinson’s Disease and Alzheimer’s Disease, enabling the emergence of new strategies in the treatment and restoration of neurological functions.

The prize was awarded to a multidisciplinary team led by the researcher Maria José Diógenes of the Institute of Molecular Medicine of the University of Lisbon, which also includes FEUP, Faculty of Pharmacy of the University of Lisbon, Instituto Superior Técnico, University of Coimbra and  University of Beira Interior. The main research focus of the awarded project is the search for new molecules for the treatment of Alzheimer’s disease.
